28 years in the making.

godzillarebornWhen Godzilla 1985 came out (1985), this is my first introduction to drive in movie theaters. If remember correctly Pee-wee’s Big Adventure  was also the other double feature. I remember as a kid I absolutely love this movie, or any other monster movie that you can think of. Oddly enough a lot of childhood heroes were from monster movies or some type of scifi. Like Alien, Terminator, RoboCop, Predator, Godzilla etc..

So we fast forward about 28 years, to present day with the newest Godzilla just coming out. I found out, about an hour away there was one drive in movie theater that was happening to show the new Godzilla (2014).

I knew right away I had to take my son to go see Godzilla. I guess create new tradition of sorts. Up till this point my son had never seen Godzilla, so I made sure he had at least see some of the older ones first. Showing him some of the classic Godzilla from 1954, then to 60’s and 70’s and even the 80’s & 90’s.  Haven’t really shown him the Godzilla with Matthew Broderick in it…. Kind of staying away from that one.

Godzilla_(2014)_posterBut my son absolutely loves it! So after 28 years! Me an my son got to watch Godzilla in a drive in theater, just like my father and I did. It’s kinda sad to think that drive ins are slowly becoming extinct. A lot of my favorite childhood memories came from the drive ins. I believe everyone at some point in their life need to go to a drive in theater.
