Survivors (Star Trek: The Next Generation #4) by Jean Lorrah….. Yep… Way to drop the ball on this one… You know.. I find myself caring less and less about Tasha Yar and her story line.

Treva is an isolated human colony on the fringes of known space on the verge of becoming a true interstellar community, a full fledged menber of the Federation. But now the U.S.S. EnterpriseTM has received a distress signal for Treva is in the throes of a violent revolution, a revolution led by a merciless warlord who has committed countless atrocities in the name of freedom.

Data and Lt. Tasha Yar are dispatched to investigate. Once they reach Treva, they discover the truth, and any possible solution may be far more complex than a simple rebellion. Treva’s president wants more then Starfleet’s good words in her fight against the rebels, she wants their weapons technology.

1111918Underwhelming and mediocre at best. I also found it quite jarring how the author just jammed Tasha’s death into the last chapter, as if she couldn’t find a better place to place it in correlation with the tv episode. Like most of the TNG books (SO FAR) the writing is rather lacking. In this book is painfully awkward and repetitive…. For example there are two female characters that are introduce, one is described as “neither pretty nor beautiful” while the other is first “stunning” and then suddenly “not beautiful, hardly even pretty.”….. How did you get published?!? Like I said the last chapter  is  rather out of place, but it does has Data reflecting on Yar’s death. That is the only bit that is written “fairly” well. Then the author drops trou and ruins it with some totally inappropriate and out-of-character line from Picard. Like one big final FU to the audience. The whole book is a mess.. I just amazed that some of these people were able to write a book or given the okay to take on a Star Trek novel.. I mean this story is beyond a “pay check” book. It’s like the author hated Star Trek and own someone a favor. Sadly this isn’t the authors only book in the Star Trek world.. I read the and posted about Star Trek Book Challenge 7: The IDIC Epidemic (Star Trek: The Original Series #38). This can’t be the same author?!? I’m in shock and awe really, because IDIC was a fun read and the characters we spot on. It just with the TNG story line, things became lazy… She also wrote Metamorphosis and that is coming up on my list in this challenge.. I’m a little worried hahaha.

At any rate. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!

This book really does promise so much with that cover and more of Tasha’s backstory, and really fails to deliver.
