Doomsday World (Star Trek: The Next Generation #12) is written by a few different authors…. Carmen Carter, Michael Jan Friedman, Peter David, Robert Greenberger and this is what they came up with…..
The planet Kirlos — an artificial world built by a mysterious long-dead race called the Ariantu. Kirlos is now home to many races from both the Federation and the K’vin Hegemony, who have enjoyed years of peaceful co-existence and profitable trade. The planet also hold a wealth of undiscovered archaeological treasures, which the Enterprise and its crew are dispatched to help uncover.
Sent to the surface to assist an archaeological team, Geordi, Data, and Worf soon find themselves cut off from the Enterprise — and the prime suspects in a series of terrorist attacks. The three Enterprise crewmen are imprisoned, relations between the K’vin and the Federation begin to crumble, and Kirlos’ ancient underground machinery awakens from a centuries long dormancy, primed to release the most powerful destructive force ever known.
It took four people to mess this book up and the characters that are in it… Now in the time line for this story happens some where the first and second season of TNG. The main people of interest are Worf(Who they turn into a hulk like, can’t think for him self and wants to kill everyone type of character.), Geordi(That was turned into a massive cry baby through out the whole story. I think he spent about a good 80% yelling and bitching at Data.) and Data……. Who knows everything!! Sadly it’s kinda the same story plot in most Trek novels. You have a planet that has ancient Tech, diplomatic mission between races, terrorist attack or some sort of attack happens and then the main characters get accused of everything…. You get the idea.. I think the problem with this novel is that there is WAY to many “cooks in the kitchen” type of thing. I wanted to like this book… But it really did nothing for me.
I’d skip this book, there are a lot of better ones out there.

I vaguely remember reading this book and actually liked it, though more for the people of the planet than the actual characters and it was nice to see characters in different group settings (like they did with “Disaster”.
Actually…if this is the book I think it is – and it’s fuzzy, so I may go back and read it again – the last part of the book is actually kinda funny between Worf, Geordi, and Data. IIRC, Worf is the voice of knowledge and reason and pretty much tells the engineers that “hey! just hit the thing and it’ll work” which…as the age old “hit it and it’ll work” you know, actually works.

Yeah there were some funny parts.. But I couldn’t get into it really, just to many people with the fingers in the pie haha.
