Today we have The Big Game (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine #4) by Sandy Schofield, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Dean Wesley Smith…. The last couple of times where I’ve read a novel is written by a number of authors was a train wrack. So I’m a little worried about this one…. The story plot for this book is:
When Quark holds a poker tournament on Deep Space Nine someone from almost every sentient race — Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans, Vulcans, Ferengi — shows up for what is sure to be the highest-stakes game of all time. But when one player is killed, the stakes get higher than even these big-money players had counted on.
With the station rocked by subspace waves that threaten its destruction, Commander Sisko and Security Chief Odo must hunt down the killer in time to save the players, a killer who has information that can save those on board Deep Space Nine from the invisible enemy they do not even know they face, a killer who holds all the cards.
We have a killer running around the station and guess what?!? Odo has to stop him! This is becoming a theme that comes up a lot in the series.. The book was a quick read and it did keep my attention all the way to the end. I was rather surprised that this DS9 novel was good! The last couple I’ve read were lacking I should say. They mostly seem to be the victims of lack of knowledge.. What I mean by that is, they were written in the beginning of the TV show. The history and characterization of the show went into a different path then they thought.
Aside from that, it was an enjoyably book and I say give it a read if you get the chance. The only thing I have a problem with the book is… Did it really need 3 writers to make this? 3… THREE… The plot was so basic.. I don’t know haha..
