CYBERPUNK is Marianne Trench’s stylistic documentary about the cyberpunk movement of the 1980s. William Gibson, author of cyberpunk classic Neuromancer, and Timothy Leary, famous advocate of psychedelic drugs, share their thoughts on the future of society and technology.
While looking a bit dated now, this film provides an interesting insight into the cyberpunk movement of the 80’s. The feeling at the time was there was some overlap between this new technical age we were entering vs the counter culture of the 1960s.

There is definitely some 60s counterculture to it. Look at the actual RPG: Rockerboys stirring up the crowds to fight the megacorporations.
The whole idea of Cyberpunk isn’t that far off either. People shook their head at Robocop and said no city could ever get that bad. Then Detroit fell apart worse than in the movie. It’s coming back now… largely with corporate investment. *cough*OCP*cough*
Folks also scoffed at the Cyberpunk idea of corporate controlled cities and states. Company mining towns go WAY back though, and Google is slowly pushing through it’s own company town around it’s HQ, with it’s own laws.
I may be fiscally conservative (social liberal), but Cyberpunk opened up my eyes to alot of stuff back in the day. It’s scary watching some of it try to go exactly that way also.

Right! I’m in the same boat as you. It is scary watching everything now a days. Between the lore of cyberpunk and Orwell 1984. The world is going to be interesting.
