Star Wars Book Challenge 4: Han Solo and the Lost Legacy (Star Wars: The Han Solo Adventures #3)

There’s a fabled treasure at stake and a price on Han’s head. So he and Chewbacca head for a planet rumored to hide undreamed-of riches. But once they get there, Han’s beloved spacecraft, the Millennium Falcon, is hijacked by a band of assassins and killer robots. Their chances for survival are so slim, they might as well risk it all….

The fabled hoard of the mad tyrant Xim was beyond measure — it was also, as far as Han Solo and his Wookiee partner Chewbacca were concerned, strictly legendary. But the pleadings of an old spacebum who had once saved his life — plus the fact that a trifling misunderstanding had set the deadliest gunman in the galaxy on his trail, making a secret expedition to almost any place seem highly desirable — were enough to grab Han Solo’s interest.

But within hours of landing on the planet rumored to hold the treasure, Han’s beloved spacecraft Millennium Falcon was hijacked, and his party had to contend with assassins and an army of killer robots.

This was no way, Han Solo felt, for a pair of honest smugglers to make a living…

img_20160527_160045.jpgYou know that scar on Han Solo’s chin? Ever wonder where it come from? Well in this book you find out that it was a knife wound he received during a fight with a dockworker on Dellalt. I found myself liking this one a little more than the second book. It also stands alone and could possibly be read out of turn with no worries (which I did by mistake). Daley does a good job at finishing up the story line for Hand Solo and Chewy. Well before the movies at least haha. Feel that Daley really hitting his stride as an author in the Expanded Star Wars Universe in this novel or novels. It can be read as a stand alone adventure story and could make for some good movies *hint hint*.  If you find this book or trilogy READ IT! I never knew this was around till my friend let me borrow them. Now I’m keeping my eyes open for a set for myself ;).HSLostLegacy_art

Star-Wars-Book Challenge_SilverSo here we have Star Wars: Scoundrels (Star Wars Legends) by Timothy Zahn. Zahn has become rather revered to the Star Wars Fanboys out there, done to his Thrawn series. Plus a number of other Wars books he was written over time.

13573427To make his biggest score, Han’s ready to take even bigger risks.
But even he can’t do this job solo.

Han Solo should be basking in his moment of glory. After all, the cocky smuggler and captain of the Millennium Falcon just played a key role in the daring raid that destroyed the Death Star and landed the first serious blow to the Empire in its war against the Rebel Alliance. But after losing the reward his heroics earned him, Han’s got nothing to celebrate. Especially since he’s deep in debt to the ruthless crime lord Jabba the Hutt. There’s a bounty on Han’s head–and if he can’t cough up the credits, he’ll surely pay with his hide. The only thing that can save him is a king’s ransom. Or maybe a gangster’s fortune? That’s what a mysterious stranger is offering in exchange for Han’s less-than-legal help with a riskier-than-usual caper. The payoff will be more than enough for Han to settle up with Jabba–and ensure he never has to haggle with the Hutts again.

All he has to do is infiltrate the ultra-fortified stronghold of a Black Sun crime syndicate underboss and crack the galaxy’s most notoriously impregnable safe. It sounds like a job for miracle workers…or madmen. So Han assembles a gallery of rogues who are a little of both–including his indispensable sidekick Chewbacca and the cunning Lando Calrissian. If anyone can dodge, deceive, and defeat heavily armed thugs, killer droids, and Imperial agents alike–and pull off the heist of the century–it’s Solo’s scoundrels. But will their crime really pay, or will it cost them the ultimate price?

giphySo think Ocean’s Eleven.. Not the ’50s Rat Pack version with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, rather the George Clooney/Brad Pitt version. I rather enjoyed this novel and had fun reading it for what it was. A lot of people are not fan of this book and pan it as a whole. I found some people saying that there wasn’t any Jedi in the novel or it’s not Star Wars with out the force.. I think they are missing the point to everything and the point of the story. it’s Han Solo! And it’s about him and his friends/crew, not Luke.. Since it takes place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back , it was really fun to see him echo or foreshadow famous moments and characters. Well written and the plot has lots of twists and turns. It is a fun read and you should check it out!98a4003224f86bdb078c61881e0f30e4d2c34087

I liked it for what it was and happy I read it. Just wasn’t my cup of tea and left me wanting more answers. But if you find yourself a copy I say give it a read.

Shadows of the Empire. So many great memories with this story line (novel and game). This has to be one of my favorite Star Wars book of all time and is definitely in my top 5. This novel was first published back in 1996, SOTE-N64that same year a third-person shooter video game was developed by LucasArts. It was one of the first games made available for the Nintendo 64, with more than 1 million copies sold as of 1997. Shadows was part of the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire multimedia project and takes place as a backstory between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Plot goes as follows:

9549 Here is the untold story of the events that took place between the movies The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi: a novel in which Darth Vader still lives–and battles a villain as powerful and evil as himself.
SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE
It is a time of crisis. Han Solo, frozen in carbonite, is being taken to the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. As Princess Leia mounts a rescue mission including Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, and a brilliant young pilot, Darth Vader pits himself against a cunning and ruthless rival. Xizor is the leader of a powerful crime syndicate who seeks to supplant Vader for the favor of their mutual master, the dreaded Emperor. Their target: Luke Skywalker. Suddenly Luke finds himself the potential prize of the two most evil entities in the galaxy–one who wants him alive…and one who wants him dead.

Steve Perry does a good job linking the two movies together (Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and fills in/answer a lot of questions. How Luke built his new light saber and what Leia, Chewie and Lando did between movies. Also goes into Luke finishing up some more of his training to become a Jedi, Han Solo is still frozen in carbonite. Leia and Chewie are still getting use to Lando and trying to figure out if they can true him. It also introduces some new characters, Xizor the head of Black Sun the evil underground crime network of the Star Wars Universe and Dash Rendar. A Smuggler/freelancer (think Han Solo only not) personally I liked Dash as a character. I know some people found to be just a rip off of Han, but as the story goes on and into other novels/comics almost kinda wish they make this into a movie.

The only problem I have with the book and it kinda annoys me a little bit. Is the writing style…. most of the sentences seemed really short at times and caused this repetitive beat to the book. But that was the only problem I had really. Over all I love this book, I use to have a copy of it some where…. Don’t know what happen to it, had to borrow this one from a friend as well.
