Posts of Blood: Hellraiser: Origins

Mike Le Han and Paul Gerrard teamed up to create a short video to aid in their pitch of Hellraiser: Origins a brand new reimagining of the world of hellraiser, sadly, it never came to be and until now, very few pieces of information is available on the project. today I run through the New pinhead, new leviathan and of course the new engineer, the coenobites!

The trailer was released on an independent website and on YouTube on 31 October 2013. Approximately two minutes (2:07) minutes long, it opens with ominous music and text fading in and out of the center frame:

Before there was man…

Before any life…

There was…

HELL

It then cuts to a top down view of a thin, disheveled man kneeling in a square of salt and lit candles, solving what fans of the franchise would recognize as the Lament Configuration from the original Hellraiser films. The top of the box opens and the man lets out a howl of agony, the camera rapidly zooming down and into the open box. It follows a twisting, convoluted tunnel of flesh, similar to a human intestine. The camera reaches the end of the tunnel where the view is entirely obscured by a bright light.

The shot fades in to reveal an apparent sea of writhing, naked human bodies covered in blood, with body parts and viscera scattered throughout. The camera continues to pan over the sea of bodies until reaching a platform, rising and gradually revealing a stylized version of Hellraiser’s Pinhead. The shot zooms slowly in to an extreme close up as Pinhead opens his eyes and music fades in. In a deep, inhuman voice he says “Welcome to Hell'”.

The scene then cuts to a wider shot of Hell, showing Pinhead standing on a platform, surrounded by an even larger sea of bodies. The shot flickers in and out, each time zooming further out and finally fading to Hellraiser: Origins and showing the web address for the project’s page.

Rather sad this did not come to light. Around the same time they were trying to get this project green light. Clive Barker announced that he was working on a reboot to the movie series. Sadly that also has not come to light. Instead we have Hulu’s Books of Blood…. Which was “okay”.. I’ll write about that later. Barker did also announce that he is coming out with a new book for this month.

Posts of Blood: Midnight Meat Train

The Midnight Meat Train

by Clive Barker

In 1984 the Books of Blood by Clive Barker were published and quickly gained a following worldwide. Literary eminences like Stephen King noticed early on the creativity and powerful prose throughout the Books of Blood, bringing Clive Barker’s stories to the forefront of horror fiction. One of these stories was “The Midnight Meat Train” following one Leon Kaufman as he discovers the origins of a series of grizzly subway train murders in New York City… and the controlling forces behind it all.

Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train Special Definitive Edition brings the original story back with all-new material: a new afterword written by Clive Barker, seven color paintings based on the story by the author, a new introduction by Phil & Sarah Stokes, a foreword by the movie screenplay writer Jeff Buhler, storyboards from the film, never-before-seen photos, notes, sketches and more.

The short story of the Midnight Meat Train was introduce to me with Books of Blood Vol. 1-3. I actually read the whole book in one sitting and I have to say the story is one of my favorites. Like most Clive Barker novels, you know what expect when you pick up one of his stories. While the story was story and it hit hard and fast. Now I have both the short version and one with the movie update. While movie edition had forward and a few story boards. It even added a little bit more to the story.

Now the story and movie are different in a few ways, as to be expected. Being a short story to start with, I’m rather not shocked that they had to add or change a few things. The artwork that Clive Barker did for the movie and for this edition for the book is fantastic. The gore and fear the story gives you is fantastic, it also give you a rich backstory and defiantly leaves you wanting more and raises a number of questions. I almost wish Barker would make a book series based on this short story.

Retro Review: The Midnight Meat Train - www.CliveBarkerCast.com

Fun fact about Midnight Meat Train, it was originally meant to be a sequel to Candyman (1992). Now is the movie the ancients’ immortality is ensured by the human flesh (they are themselves degenerate humans), and said immortality is needed for them to continually serve the Eldritch Abomination they made a deal with so New York would prosper. It’s implied that similar deals were brokered with similar abominations at the site of every major city in the world. The short story kinda hints at that, but it mostly focuses on New York and give you the idea that this beings are vary old. It caused me to have thoughts of H.P. Lovecraft and his universe.

Posts of Blood: Hulu’s Books of Blood Film

Like I stated before, I’m starting a series of theme posts for October, leading to Halloween. But with the new Hulu film Books of Blood coming out on Oct. 7th. I figured I would kick things off or have it serve are a preview of what is to come in October. Now there have been a number of movies already made based on the short stories, like: Rawhead Rex, The Midnight Meat Train, On Jerusalem Street, The Book of Blood, and Candyman. The story of The Yattering and Jack was make into a feature by Barker for the Tales of the Darkside in the early ’80s. Even Lord of Illusion was based off of The Last Illusion short story, that was also directed by Barker.

So what can be left for Hulu to use? When from what I read, they are use one original story from the Books of Blood and then created two new ones for this film. Now they also said that they worked with Barker on the other new stories for the film. I am rather looking forward for this to come out. Sadly when I first heard about Books of Blood, it was going to be a TV series and not a film. But now Hulu seems to fit everything into one movie… That worries me a little is that might mess up the story lines. Making into a cheap copy of Tales from the Crypt. But!! I am still looking forward to it and I’m sure you’ll hear all about it once it comes out hahaha. Here is the trailer for it below:

We Know….

We Know….

So awhile ago I had placed an order for two hats, that were on a flash sale. Skyrim theme hats in fact :). They had embroidered red hand print and below it said “we know”. Skyrim being one of my favorite games of all time and can’t wait for the Xbox One edition to come out. This was a no brainer on buying two.

I was rather surprised at the quality of the hat and the design. I thought it was…

I was rather surprised at the quality of the hat and the design. I thought it was going to be silk screened on the hat. So yeah haha.

Also the other week I had picked up some more books for the Star Wars Book Challenge.

Plus a Clive Barker novel. Because I love his work and it’s so hard to find anything by him.
