216889So you have Klingons, people who hate everything about Klingons mix in a peace conference and then add a odd planet. Adjust for Data weird and carry the strange healing grain and you have this book…(Notice the math joke there?) The story line or the base for the this book has been done before sadly.

The Hidran race and the Klingon Empire have been at each other’s throats for seventy years, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard has been asked to do the near-impossible: take the “U.S.S. Enterprise(TM) to the planet Velex to mediate a treaty that will end the conflict between these two aggressive species. Things get off to a rocky start — then turn deadly as the Hidran ambassador mysteriously dies, and kills a Klingon delegate as a last act of vengence. When Lt.Worf is charged with the ambassador’s assassination, and Commander Riker and Counselor Troi are trapped far below the surface of the planet, Captain Picard must not only act to save the Hidranas and Klingons from each other, but to save his Klingon officer from a hideous death sentence..

There are so many thing going on in this book it’s hard to keep track. I mean you have your fan favorites like Worf, Data, Geordi and Picard. I mean the interaction between Geordi and Data I like and found funny at times. But the whole book was back and forth to much. It is fast paced & dramatic, but the story is just average at best.. It’s a good way to kill sometime if need.. but I can think of some better books to do that with.

Earlier today I found a little gem called Star trek: Renegades.. They have a few different trailers out now and this is a fan made film. I can’t really describe the level of awesome this fan made film looks! Shockingly is has some rather big movie actors in it like:

Walter Koenig (Chekov, Original Series), Tim Russ, Gary Graham (Alien Nation; Soval, Enterprise), Robert Picardo (the holodoctor, Voyager, Voyager), Sean Young (Blade Runner, Dune), Manu Intiraymi (Icheb, Voyager), Corin Nemec (Stargate SG-1, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), Richard Herd (Admiral Paris, Voyager) I mean the list goes on and on.

From reading the plot line it happens 10 years after Voyager & The Federation’s suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing. Mean while time and space have folded around several planets isolating them. This event is not natural & someone or something is causing this to happen.

So the Federation pulls some rather drastic measures. And because of this move outside jurisdiction of the Federation, Admiral Pavel Chekov(Yay! Love Chekov), head of Starfleet Intelligence, meets up with Commander Tuvok, the current head of the reorganized Section 31. Tuvok has to put together a new renegade crew… Of course it has to be  made up mostly of  outcasts and rogues and dare I say even criminals? The new crew is tasked with finding out the cause of this time warp and possibly try and stop it. The only downside with hiring outcasts, they have trouble putting their differences aside, but can they do it in time to accomplish their mission?

I’m rather looking forward to this fan made project. The idea behind or at least what they are trying to do  goes as follows:

“Renegades will be a departure from previous Treks – delving into the dark side of the human psyche, pushing our heroes to their limits, forcing them to carry out actions that they never would have as Starfleet officers. The rules have changed, and they realize they might be the last hope to save the Federation. Star Trek: Renegades will be action oriented, filled with suspense and espionage; all while exploring new worlds, encountering both familiar and new alien species, and boldly going where no Trek has gone before.”

Here are two of the trailers for Star Trek: Renegades, please enjoy and check out their website at http://startrekrenegades.com

So after watching this a number of times haha. I was wondering if they were going to reboot the TV series at any point. I know in one of the podcast I do, I found some news that Netfix was talking about starting up Star Trek again. That they were in talks with CBS, sadly I don’t think anything ever come of it. Till I found this posted in March of this year 2015 stating that CBS is developing new Star Trek TV series. Sadly this year marks ten years since Star Trek: Enterprise went off the air 😦 even tho I hated how they ended Enterprise. I still loved that show and what it brought to the table in the Star Trek world. It seems whoever made the pitch for Federation are involved with making a new pitch for CBS, as Bryan Singer’s name has been mentioned for the new CBS Star Trek as a possible Executive Producer. Also Rob Burnett, who is one of the producers on the fan-funded Star Trek: Axanar, (which shows how great a Star Trek project can look on a micro-budget) is said to still be involved. And Chris McQuarrie, who is directing the new Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, has been name from the original Federation pitch….. Whatever the new Trek TV project is, they want the focus right now to be on Star Trek 3, oncce that has come out you can expect an official announcement. It’s been a decade now(rather crazy to think about really. Wow I feel old now.), & CBS knows full well that Star Trek is far too valuable/important to leave off television for too long.

This also got me thinking about different ideas for a Star trek show. I personally would like to see Commander Riker take over a Star Trek show. I think it would be really cool to see him take full command and lead his team to boldly go where no man has gone before. Maybe that’s just me? Riker next to Data were my favorites on the TNG and would like like to see them do something. But I have a feeling that they might do a clean slate with the series and I can’t blame them for that really. At any rate here is a video from  Nerd Court “The Trial of Star Trek’s William T. Riker – Nerd Court (ft. Jonathan Frakes)”
