Wizard World 2019: Artists & Retailers

wizardworld-logo

Okay this one is more about the Artists rather than the retailers.. While there is a number of great retailers that come to these events. I feel this year wasn’t that great.. I found a lot of them to be over priced for what they were selling. For example: one retailer would be selling a Pop Head at $40. Now you can go two spaces down and find the same one for $20 or $15…. Plus there seems to be a number of complaining coming from the booths. Stating that no one is buying anything and “trying” to cause guilt trips into buying their stuff.. Personally I found myself think they should have made plans on selling and/or pricing for their products. I really don’t feel bad for them, specially the ones selling autographs of actors or guest for almost double what they are worth. Plus the fact you if you selling autographs of guest who are there at the Comic Con. Why would you buy just pictures for a 100+, when you can get a more personal experience with them and a picture…? It annoys me to no end with these people. I had one guy bitch at me because he put his all his money into this event, in hopes of a profit. This went on for almost 15 awkward minutes. He had nothing but autograph pictures…. No clothing, props, figures.. Just pictures… In the end I just walked away, stating you should have better business sense and know your demographic better. Before wasting all your money on this kinda project.

ANYWHO!! Sorry got on a random soapbox there.

The Artist:

I got to meet Randy Emberlin and wow. Super nice guy and funny. Talked to him for a bit about his art work and past job he had in the past. If you don’t know who Randy is, here is a small bio for you.

Image result for Randy Emberlin

Randy Emberlin is a comic book inker best known for his ink work on the Spider-Man comic books. Per the bio on his website, he currently lives in Portland, Oregon. He has spent the past 30 years working in a variety of creative fields, including as an illustrator of educational books and an animator on over fifty television commercials.

Over the last 20 years he is probably best known for his work as an inker in comics, with a resumé that includes long runs on The Amazing Spider-Man, G.I. Joe, Doctor Strange, Alien Legion, Ghost, and recently the Left Behind series for Tyndale House. He has worked with a wide range of pencilers.

I found myself buying a number of his pictures and getting is autograph as well. Plus the lack of Spider-Man artwork on my walls is rather bothersome haha.

static1.squarespace.comI also got to meet Mostafa Moussa and fell in love with his art style. With out even thinking about it, I got a drawing he did with Deadpool & Cable. As well as one of Harley Quinn. Mostafa has worked with DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Image Comics, IDW, Dark Horse, Hasbro, Mirage Studios, Zenescope, Devil’s Due, Big Dog Ink, just to name a few. Personally I didn’t realize who he was till I saw his art work and put two and two together haha.

7 Years of Wizard World

So after everything was said and done with this years Wizard World Comic Con. They sent out a thank you email to all those who had a press pass. In the first paragraph it goes on about the positive feedback from guests and fans. Then it states that it was the 7th year… Wait what? Has it been 7 years? I have I been doing this for 7 years? Good lord…

This got me thinking about pass events and interviews or even stories I haven’t shared yet.. Some of them I changed my mind and didn’t want to share them. As silly as that sounds, I wanted to keep them to myself that the time. But the more I think about it, the more I just want to share them with everyone. So I thinking I’ll do a “Lost Tales of Wizard World” series in between current posts of this years event.

Buffy Reunion WW Portland 2019.jpgBut I have to say this year was amazing! It was a Buffy The Vampire theme Comic Con this year that’s for sure. Along with DC over tones from the movies and TV shows. The Artists this year were excellent, dare I say better than last years? I actually found myself buy more art work than anything this year and taking more pictures. The Cosplay was fantastic as well, which my kids loved it and took part in it as well.

But all that will be for other posts come out shortly. But I have some updates I would like share!! ON Jan. 24-26 of 2020 Wizard World Portland Oregon will be back! As of right now word on any guests or artists, it just to soon after. So Save the date!!

Wizard World 2019 News: James Marsters Dropped??

So a few days ago, I was roaming around Twitter as you do and saw a post from James Marsters say that he was dropped random from Wizard World Portland. With no reason as to why, he went on to inform everyone that was coming to this comic con. I might note that this Wizard World is vary heavy on the Buffy theme with Alyson Hannigan, Alexis Denisof, Juliet Landau, Julie Benz, Amber Benson, Clare Kramer, and Charisma Carpenter.

With an out cry from his fans trying to figure out as to why he was removed from the line up. I personally went and asked my PR that I go through for my press pass and asked him. He didn’t have any idea as to why he was dropped as well. So after a few conversations back and forth, later on that day James updated he Twitter stating:

Jan 29

After seeing the concern and love from everyone last night, both me and ‘s management have mutually worked things out. I’m so happy to announce that I will still be attending Wizard World Portland! I’m very excited for this Buffy extravaganza and seeing you there!

Wizard World Unboxing Harry Potter: Slytherin Box

So while I did enjoy the items in the box. I feel it wasn’t worth $50.00. I’ve had Loot Crates or Geek Fuel boxes that are $25.00 or $30.00 at that chad better items in it and more. I think I had a problem with is how the box was setup. It’s a rather large box and when you open it, you see all the items upfront. A lanyard, small pillow key chain thing, belt, wallet, tie. Under these cool items was a white divider that took up more than half the box, making it look like there was more in there. NOPE…That was it..

Now like I said, I liked the loot, just don’t think it was work $50.00… Now we as got a free mystery box after buying Rick and Morty and Harry Potter Loot Crates. It was a one itme box and this one had Marvel socks (Dr. Strange theme).

No there are a number loot boxes all over Comic Con. Just rethink the Harry Potter crate.

Wizard World 2017 Update!

Wizard World (OTCBB: WIZD) presents a screening of the 1975, Twentieth Century Fox classic musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show during the Wizard World Comic Con Portland, Saturday, February 18. Barry Bostwick, who starred as “Brad Majors” in the cult favorite, will host the event, along with the local shadow cast group “Clinton Street Cabaret,” beginning at 7 p.m. on the main show floor at the Oregon Convention Center, site of Wizard World Comic Con Portland that weekend.

Wizard World, the leading producer of pop culture events nationwide, is expanding its footprint in the entertainment industry. Tickets are available in advance for $10 at www.wizardworld.com.

“Wizard World is excited to bring this all-time cult favorite to our fans in Portland,” said John D. Maatta, Wizard World President & CEO. “It exemplifies the additional emphasis we are placing on programming and extra activities at our shows to enhance the entertainment value for attendees throughout the weekend.”

“We are looking forward to bringing the original Rocky Horror Picture Show to Wizard World Comic Con,” said Lou Adler, executive producer of the film. “It is a unique opportunity and a perfect match for both.”

“‘It’s just a party, Janet!’ Come and join me for a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the full Shadow Cast experience,” added Bostwick.

In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, sweethearts Brad Majors (Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, visit the creepy home of eccentric Dr. Frank N Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist in search of a phone. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). The film, famed for midnight showings, has been screened regularly since its September 1975 U.S. release, often with audiences in full costume playing out the scenes as they are shown.

The event will also feature a display of numerous items from the original movie, for an even more authentic experience for attendees. Among them are original costumes, original costume designs, handwritten song lyrics, scripts, contracts and behind-the-scenes photos, from the collection of Larry Viezel, noted Rocky Horror superfan, historian and collector.

Wizard World Comic Con Portland will feature John Barrowman (“Arrow,” “Torchwood”), Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”), Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” God’s Not Dead), Nichelle Nichols (“Star Trek”), Marie Avgeropoulos and Tasya Teles (“The 100”), Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox (“CHiPs”), Josh McDermitt (“The Walking Dead,” “Retired at 35”), Cerina Vincent (Not Another Teen MovieCabin Fever and Lou Ferrigno (“The Incredible Hulk”) among the all-star cast of celebrities scheduled to appear, February 17-19 at the Oregon Convention Center. The event marks Wizard World’s fifth annual show in Portland and the second on Wizard World’s 2017 calendar of 16 scheduled events.

Additionally, Wizard World will host SocialCon (www.socialcon.com) at Portland on Saturday, February 18, with major social influencers including notables Kristen Hancher, Crawford Collins, Justin Blake, featured musical performer Zach Clayton, Nick Bean, Jackson Krecioch, Bryce Hall and special musical guest Johnny Orlando as well as many others, whose combined follower reach exceeds 50 million.
